Curly Willow tree

I had gotten this bouquet of flowers last year from my kids for Mother's day. This was from Martha Stewart's collection. See the wooden branch that came in the vase? That is a Curly Willow branch. After a week in water, I noticed it was growing roots!
I took that branch and planted it outside in my yard. The photo below shows what the branch became after only one year!
Curly Willow, Willow bushes, Oak Willows and Willow trees all have growth hormones in them, so they self root. You can also take a small piece of the branch and add it to your water to root other plants that propagate this way. We have sold the house where this is planted, and I can see over the fence that this tree is now about 8' tall! And all from one little branch in a bouquet of flowers!

Welcome back! I have your blog on my "list" and it's been at the bottom due to inactivity. I was quite pleased to see you back at the top today! :)

How fascinating. I love that it grows so fast. Thanks for the information. I need to hunt for some curly willow. Hugs, Marty

Thanks
Gail! I am finally able to spend some time online. I missed coming here.

Marty,
I just drove by the house today and it is even taller now! If you know someone with a tree, just get a small piece of branch!
Glad to see you here too!

I love curly willow and we planted one many years back in our last house. Ended up splitting in an ice storm and we had to have it taken down. How we missed that tree but in retrospect was not a good choice as their roots wreak havoc on sewers, foundations and septics. I think I might try one in a container, though!

Thanks Sue for stopping by!
Yes, their roots are invasive. This tree I planted is 20' from the detached garage and no other buildings around. That is the street side of the property.

Hi,
Judith is great! We both are so involved in photography right now! She is a dear and is teaching me stuff! We have a great time just yaking techie camera stuff!

She has been so busy with her yard, new photo ideas and research! She is doing well and looks GREAT! She has become a dear friend. I am lucky to have such a smart and talented friend to share decorating and now photography!

I will let her know you asked about her. She comes on here once in a while to check what I am up to.
